Levelling and polishing of large apartment floor areas.

Apartment floors, family bathrooms and building lobbies: we restore the plateau’s marble in occupied homes, room by room.
Perched above the Arve, Champel is one of Geneva’s most sought-after residential districts. Along the Avenue de Champel and across the Plateau de Champel stand large, handsome apartment buildings, post-war residences with generous balconies and, in the quieter streets, houses set in gardens. It is a peaceful, family-oriented neighbourhood, where apartments are spacious and people look after their interiors for the long term.
Marble is very present here, but often in a more domestic than showy way. You find it in apartment hallways and corridors, in large family bathrooms, on window sills, as living-room fireplaces and in building lobbies. Colours range from Carrara white to creamy beige, by way of grey marbles such as Bardiglio, prized for their understated look.
Les Traitements du Sud · Geneva supports Champel owners and condominium associations (PPE) with its full range of services: grinding for heavily worn floors, polishing, stain removal, repair and regular maintenance. We work carefully in occupied homes, often with families and children, organising the project so that everyday life can carry on.

In Champel’s large apartments, marble often runs from the entrance through to the living room, sometimes over more than a hundred square metres. Over the years the walkways become visibly worn: the shine disappears between the front door and the kitchen, chair legs mark the dining room and the joints get dirty. Fine cracks sometimes appear at the thresholds.
We treat these floors with wet grinding that removes scratches and lippage between tiles, followed by progressive polishing to the finish you want. Joints are cleaned or redone and cracks stabilised. The work is carried out room by room so that you keep the use of your home. See also our page on marble floors.
Champel is a neighbourhood that values its peace and quiet, and our hours reflect that: no machines before a reasonable time in the morning, no noisy work in the evening, and a conversation with the property manager to respect the building’s rules. Parking in the residential streets is regulated; we arrange permits or a nearby car park and use visitor spaces where the building has them.
Champel station, on the Léman Express line, and the many bus routes also make the district very accessible. In recent buildings, roomy lifts make moving equipment straightforward; in older ones, we protect the lift car and landings before anything is brought through.
The gardens and trees that give the plateau its charm also affect the floors: wet leaves in autumn, soil and grit from garden paths, salt from the pavements in winter. Apartment entrances and lobbies that open directly onto a garden therefore wear faster than the rest. There we usually recommend a scraper mat outside, an absorbent mat inside and a sealer renewed at regular intervals.

The bathrooms in Champel’s family apartments are heavily used rooms. Limescale from Geneva’s water builds up on shower walls and around taps, cosmetics leave rings on vanity tops, and some harsh household cleaners dull the stone.
We remove the deposits without attacking the marble, erase dull marks by re-polishing and apply a water- and oil-repellent sealer. We then recommend gentle products to use, so the bathroom stays beautiful despite intensive daily use. Details on our marble bathrooms page.

Champel was built up in successive waves, and each period left its own way of using marble. Knowing which generation a building belongs to helps us anticipate the condition of the stone and the most appropriate finish.
In the older buildings near the Avenue de Champel, marble is reserved for the reception rooms: white or veined fireplaces, thresholds, window sills. These pieces mostly call for gentle cleaning and hand re-polishing.
Buildings from the 1950s to the 1970s often have lobbies and staircases in pale marble or terrazzo. Worn treads and dull landings regain a fine finish after careful re-levelling.
Refurbished apartments readily feature large slabs of Carrara, Calacatta or Bardiglio. Here our work focuses on stain removal, sealing and maintenance to preserve the original look.

Yes. We organise the work room by room: while we treat the hallway and corridor, you keep the use of the bedrooms, and then the other way round. Wet grinding produces no airborne dust and each area is dry and usable the same day or the next. You receive a precise schedule before the work begins.
We follow the usual hours set by Geneva building regulations and respect the neighbours’ peace. Noisy operations take place during the day, never early in the morning or in the evening. If your property manager has particular requirements, such as a lunchtime break, we build them into the schedule.
Not necessarily. If the scratches are superficial, polishing alone is enough to even out the surface. Grinding is only needed when tiles are uneven or deeply scratched. We test a small area during the visit to suggest the most appropriate option.
Wiping the walls with a squeegee after showering remains the most effective habit. A water-repellent sealer applied after restoration reduces how much the deposits cling. Avoid acidic shop-bought descalers: they attack marble. We recommend a pH-neutral cleaner suitable for natural stone.
Yes, we restore marble lobbies, landings and staircases in the district’s buildings on behalf of property managers and PPEs. We phase the work to keep a clear route and coordinate with the caretaker. A quote itemised by surface makes the decision at a general meeting easier.
Use our contact page, describing the surface concerned and, if possible, attaching a few photos. We will call you back to arrange a visit. The quote is free, without obligation and given in Swiss francs.
