Lakefront building lobbies, renovated kitchens and historic staircases: we bring back the shine of marble between the Quai Gustave-Ador and the Rue des Eaux-Vives.
Eaux-Vives stretches from the left bank of Lake Geneva up to the slopes rising towards Malagnou. On the lake side, the Quai Gustave-Ador is lined with large residential buildings facing the Jet d’Eau and the harbour; a little further on lie the Parc La Grange and the Parc des Eaux-Vives, their broad lawns sloping down to the water. Inland, the Rue des Eaux-Vives and its side streets form a livelier, more everyday fabric, with cafés, delicatessens and small workshops.
That diversity is reflected in the marble. In the upmarket buildings along the lakefront, it lines entrance halls and landings, and often the bathrooms of the larger apartments. In buildings from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, it appears as thresholds, stair treads or drawing-room fireplaces. In more recent renovations, it takes the form of kitchen worktops, splashbacks and basins, often in Carrara or Calacatta.
Les Traitements du Sud · Geneva adapts its methods to each of these uses: polishing and crystallization for busy lobbies, stain removal and sealing for kitchens, repair for chips and cracks. We work for private owners as well as for the district’s property managers and condominium associations (PPE).

The buildings facing the lake welcome residents into spacious lobbies, often finished in marble on the floor and sometimes on the walls. These are highly visible surfaces that set the tone for the whole building, but also hard-working ones: deliveries, pushchairs, suitcases, removal trolleys.
Being close to the water adds another factor: when the bise blows, spray and damp from the quay are carried indoors, and in winter the salt spread on the lakeside pavements becomes ground into the first few metres of the lobby. For these entrances we offer a restorative polish followed by crystallization, which firms up the surface and gives it a crisp shine, then a simple care plan for the caretaker. See our page on marble building lobbies.
The district is busy from morning to night: ground-floor shops, markets, café terraces and heavy traffic on the main roads. Parking is regulated and scarce at peak times. We therefore arrive early, unload quickly and leave the vehicle in a nearby car park. Eaux-Vives station, served by the Léman Express, also makes it easy for our team to get there once the equipment is already on site.
In mixed-use buildings, where a café or shop occupies the ground floor and families live above, we agree working hours with the property manager: the noisier operations mid-morning or mid-afternoon, the quieter finishing work at the end of the day. Working wet keeps dust out of the stairwells.
Further up the district, towards the Chemin de Roches and the streets climbing towards Malagnou, there are more buildings from the late nineteenth century and the inter-war years. Their staircases often pair stone or grey marble treads with paler risers, and their apartments sometimes keep a white or veined marble fireplace in the main room. On these older surfaces we favour a light grind, just enough to remove the scratches, followed by a satin polish that sits well with the original parquet and mouldings. The aim is a coherent whole, where the marble regains its freshness without looking brand new amid a period setting.
You send us a few photos and a description; we ask the right questions about the surface, access and what you expect.
On site we identify the marble, measure the surfaces and test a small area if needed, then provide a free quote in Swiss francs.
Dates, hours, access and notice to occupants are agreed with you or the property manager before work begins.
Protection of the surroundings, cleaning, correction of defects, polishing through successive grits and the finish of your choice: honed, satin or high gloss.
A water- or oil-repellent sealer is applied to suit the use, followed by full drying before the area is reopened.
We give you care advice and can offer periodic maintenance for high-traffic lobbies.

Many Eaux-Vives apartments have been renovated in recent years, with kitchens opening onto the living room and islands in pale marble. These worktops are beautiful but delicate: lemon, vinegar, wine and tomato sauce attack the calcite and leave dull marks; oil soaks in and darkens the stone. Geneva’s fairly hard tap water also leaves deposits around the sink.
We remove acid etching with localised or full re-polishing, draw out grease stains with a poultice, then apply an oil-repellent sealer that slows the penetration of liquids. The work is done without removing the worktop, with the kitchen units and appliances protected. Find out more on our marble worktops page.

ServiceA lasting shine and a firmer surface for high-traffic floors.
Yes. We divide the lobby into zones treated one after another, always leaving a marked route to the lift and the stairs. Residents are informed by notices showing the timing of each phase. For large lobbies we can also spread the work over several half-days to limit disruption at the busiest times.
This bloom comes from de-icing salt carried in on shoes. Suitable cleaning first dissolves the deposits; if the surface has been dulled, localised polishing restores its shine. We then recommend a long enough entrance mat and a water-repellent sealer so that future deposits come away more easily with routine cleaning.
Yes. These dull marks are acid etching or limescale deposits: the surface of the stone has been slightly altered. Re-polishing restores an even appearance. We finish with a sealer and show you a few simple habits, such as wiping up splashes promptly and using a pH-neutral cleaner.
Yes. Marble thresholds, floors and counters in shops, cafés and practices are treated outside opening hours, early in the morning, in the evening or on a closing day. We adjust the schedule so that business resumes on a dry, usable surface.
Yes, we are happy to work with property managers and PPE committees. We provide a quote itemised by surface, useful for a decision at a general meeting, and coordinate with the caretaker for access, water and electricity. See our page for property managers and PPEs.
Simply fill in the form on our contact page or give us a call. A few photos of the surface and an estimate of its size help us prepare the visit. The quote is free, without obligation and given in Swiss francs.
