On-site restoration of carved fireplaces and their mantels.

Mansions, upmarket residences and practices: we restore fireplaces, reception floors and dark marbles with method and discretion.
Between the Route de Florissant and the Route de Malagnou lies a leafy residential district, close to the centre yet very quiet. Here you find mansions with walled gardens, early twentieth-century villas, upmarket apartment buildings set back from the street and, along the main roads, buildings housing medical practices, fiduciary firms and consultancies. The Natural History Museum on the Route de Malagnou is one of the area’s familiar landmarks.
In these residences, marble is a prestige material used generously: reception-room floors, grand interior staircases, monumental fireplaces, master bathrooms, sometimes columns or door surrounds. The marbles are varied: statuary whites, veined greys, dark greens such as Vert de Suède or Verde Alpi, warm-toned breccias. Each reacts differently to polishing and needs its own settings.
Les Traitements du Sud · Geneva works in these houses as well as in the district’s apartment buildings, for owners, house managers, property managers and professional practices. We carry out grinding, polishing, crystallization, repair and sealing, with the discretion the occupants of these places expect.
Before any work, we take the time to identify every marble in the house, as a single residence often combines several: a white in the hall, a green around the fireplace, a beige in the bathrooms. This survey determines the abrasives, the stain-removal products and the final sealer for each surface.

Florissant’s mansions have often kept one or more marble fireplaces, sometimes carved with floral motifs or fluting. Where the fireplace is still in use, soot and heat mark the jambs; where it is decorative, it is mostly objects placed on the mantel that leave rings.
We restore these pieces in place, by hand for the reliefs and by machine for the flat surfaces, and refinish the reception floors around them. Dark marbles such as greens demand particular care: the slightest scratch shows, and the final polish must be perfectly even to bring out their depth. Find out more about our marble fireplace work.
Large volumes, multiple marbles, precious furniture: we work zone by zone, in coordination with the house manager or owner, and carefully protect panelling, rugs and works of art.
Lobbies, landings and communal staircases are treated on behalf of the property manager or PPE, phased to keep residents’ access and followed by a maintenance plan.
For medical practices, fiduciary firms and offices along the main roads, we work outside reception hours so that patients and clients are welcomed into an impeccable space.
The Route de Florissant and the Route de Malagnou are busy roads where stopping a vehicle is not always possible. For houses with a gate and a courtyard, we are happy to park on the property with the owner’s agreement. For apartment buildings, we use visitor spaces or a nearby car park and group our trips together.
Many owners in the district prefer a discreet service: an unmarked vehicle, a small team, hours agreed in advance and confidentiality about the premises. We can also work while you are away if you prefer, liaising with your house manager or caretaker.

The district’s residences often showcase dark or coloured marbles, which are rarer in recent apartments. A Vert de Suède, a Nero Marquina or a reddish breccia reveals its full beauty when perfectly polished, but it also shows limescale haze and micro-scratches more readily.
We adapt the abrasives and polishing compounds to each of these stones and avoid any product that might leave a whitish film. For serpentine marbles, which are sensitive to water, we reduce wetting and monitor drying. The result: a dense, even colour that restores all the depth of the décor. Our swatch below shows some of the marbles we treat.

Yes. It is common for a mansion to combine a white marble in the hall, a green or black around the fireplace and a beige in the bathrooms. We identify each stone during the visit and adapt abrasives, products and sealing to each. The quote details the work surface by surface so you know exactly what is planned.
With your agreement, that is our preferred option: it avoids stopping on a very busy road and makes unloading easier. Our vehicle is compact and we protect driveways where necessary. If the property does not allow it, we use a nearby car park and arrange to carry the equipment in.
In most cases, yes. This haze often comes from limescale, old cleaning products or light etching. Targeted cleaning followed by re-polishing suited to dark marbles usually restores a deep, even colour. We test a discreet area before treating the whole piece.
