From Cornavin to the lakeside, a district of hospitality and business

Geneva’s Right Bank has an energy all of its own. Around Cornavin station and the Rue du Mont-Blanc, the flow of travellers barely stops; along the Quai du Mont-Blanc, grand hotels and residences look out over the harbour and the Jet d’Eau; in the Pâquis, a lively, cosmopolitan district mixes restaurants, shops and apartment buildings; further north, Sécheron is home to recent residential buildings, offices and the neighbourhood of the international organisations. The Boulevard James-Fazy and its surrounding streets bear witness to the nineteenth-century town planning that followed the demolition of the fortifications.

Marble goes hand in hand with this spirit of hospitality. It lines the lobbies of hotels and residences, office receptions, the staircases of nineteenth-century buildings, room and suite bathrooms, and bar and restaurant counters. Here, marble works hard: every day it takes hundreds of footsteps, suitcase wheels, service trolleys and, in winter, salt carried in from the pavements.

Les Traitements du Sud · Geneva meets these demands with work planned around your operations: crystallization of reception floors, restorative polishing, repair of chips and periodic maintenance, for the Right Bank’s hotels, property managers, offices and private owners.

Lobbies and receptions open day and night

A hotel lobby never closes. For establishments on the lakefront and around the station, we work at night, zone by zone, marking out a clean route between the entrance, the reception desk and the lifts. Our machines are chosen for their low noise, and the crystallization finish is applied dry, allowing the area to be reopened quickly.

We also restore room and suite bathrooms on a rotating basis, following the schedule of available floors provided by housekeeping. Marble bar counters and restaurant tables are cleaned of stains and protected against acidic liquids. Our hotels page describes this approach in detail.

Local constraints

Traffic, deliveries and working hours on the Right Bank

Between the station, the quays and the shopping streets of the Pâquis, traffic is heavy at all hours and delivery bays are in high demand. We plan our arrivals outside peak times, use the loading bays of hotels and office buildings where available, and park in the area’s underground car parks for projects lasting several days.

Working hours adapt to each type of building: at night for hotel lobbies, in the evening and at weekends for offices, during the day for residential buildings, in line with house rules. In the older buildings on the Boulevard James-Fazy or in the Pâquis, staircases without a service lift call for compact equipment, which we carry up by hand.

Building lobbies from the Pâquis to Sécheron

In the Pâquis and around the Rue de Lausanne, many buildings from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries have a lobby and staircase in marble or polished stone. The treads are often hollowed in the middle and the ground floor greys under the traffic. In Sécheron and along the quays, more recent residential and office buildings feature large pale slabs in glazed lobbies, where the slightest mark shows in natural light.

For the former, we offer re-levelling of the treads and a satin polish; for the latter, a finishing polish followed by crystallization and regular maintenance. In both cases we work closely with the property manager and the caretaker. See our page for private banks and offices.

Hospitality venues

Restaurants, bars and shops

The Right Bank has many restaurants, bars and shops where marble is both décor and working surface: counters, tables, thresholds, dining-room floors. Wine, citrus, coffee and oils leave their marks over the course of service. We clean, re-polish and seal these surfaces outside opening hours, often in a single night for a counter or a few tables. We can also give your staff a short briefing on good daily care habits, to extend the effect of the restoration.

The Right Bank is also home to a very international population: diplomats, staff of the organisations based around Sécheron and the Place des Nations, and executives on assignment renting furnished apartments. For these residents and the agencies that manage their homes, we communicate in either French or English, provide clear quotes and schedule the work between two lets, so the apartment is ready for the next tenant’s arrival. Living-room floors, kitchen worktops and marble bathrooms are restored to freshness within a few days.

FAQ

Marble restoration on the Right Bank: your questions

Can you restore a Quai du Mont-Blanc hotel lobby without closing reception?

Yes. We work at night and by zones, always leaving a clean, marked route between the entrance, the reception desk and the lifts. Our machines are chosen for their low noise, and each zone is dry and usable before the morning guests arrive. The schedule is drawn up with your technical management.

How do you handle parking near Cornavin station?

We avoid peak hours, use the buildings’ loading bays where they exist and park in a nearby underground car park for projects lasting several days. The equipment then stays on site in a room provided, limiting trips in a very busy area.

The steps in our Pâquis building are hollowed: can they be restored?

Yes, to a large extent. Progressive grinding reduces the wear and restores an even surface, then a satin polish brings back their finish. Chipped nosings are rebuilt with a tinted resin. We work half a flight at a time so the staircase remains usable.

Do you offer regular maintenance for hotels and offices?

Yes. After a restoration, periodic maintenance keeps the level of shine despite the traffic. The frequency is agreed with you according to how the surfaces are used. These visits are short and scheduled at quiet times. Discover our marble maintenance service.

Do you work in the district’s restaurants and bars?

Yes. Marble counters, tables and floors in restaurants and bars are cleaned, re-polished and sealed outside service hours, usually at night or on a closing day. The sealer applied slows the penetration of wine, coffee and oils.

How do I request a quote on the Right Bank?

Use our contact page, specifying the type of venue, the surfaces and your timing constraints. We arrange a visit, including in the evening if needed. The quote is free, without obligation and given in Swiss francs.
